How To: Install Facebook Home on Your HTC One or Other Android Device

Install Facebook Home on Your HTC One or Other Android Device

Facebook and HTC's First was a complete disaster. Soon after its release, carriers were literally giving them away with a two-year contract—or just trying to send them back. It was supposed to be the flagship device for Facebook Home, an Android launcher for Facebook fiends.

Soon after, Facebook announced support for some Nexus devices, the Samsung Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4, and the HTC One. However, only the international version of the HTC One is currently supported.

Fortunately, our developer friends over at XDA have modified the Facebook and Facebook Home APK files so that they'll work on any Android device. So, if you want to see for yourself what Facebook Home is like, just follow along below.

If you have another device, like the Nexus 7, you can check out fellow softModder Danny's guide, too.

Step 1: Uninstall Facebook & Facebook Messenger

Since we'll be installing a modded Facebook app, you'll need to uninstall any Facebook apps you currently have installed. You can do this from Settings -> Apps.

If Facebook came preloaded, it's likely that you'll need to be rooted. Visit our previous softModder tutorial for instructions on uninstalling system apps.

Step 2: Install the Modded Facebook & Facebook Home APKs

Download the modified APK files below:

For the most current download links, you can check out theos0o's post on XDA for updates.

If you're downloading them directly onto your phone, make sure "Unknown Sources" is checked. If from your computer, just transfer them over via USB cable or AirDroid to your HTC One and use a file manager to locate them (I use File Manager).

With Facebook Home, you'll be able to update your status and upload pictures all from your home screen. You can access all your apps or even hop back to HTC Sense if you need to.

It's not for everyone, but if you're constantly on the Facebook app, it should save you some time, and seeing your friends' status updates on top of their cover photos looks pretty cool.
